Equipped For
Eternity
Hello! And welcome....We are Equipped For
Eternity. We offer unique handmade adornments.
ALL ITEMS we sell are MADE BY US, with the
exception of ethnic jewelry. We DO NOT have
jewelry made overseas. Be careful who you support,
because a lot of "tribal" or "natural/organic" jewelry
is made in "body jewelry sweatshops". Be sure to
support MODIFIED VENDORS!
We primarily draw on influences from head taking
cultures including Naga (of India and Burma), Dayak
(of Borneo), Caddo (of lower Mississippi Valley),
and Pacific Islands,as well as non-head taking
obscure from the farthest corners of the Earth.
Some of our main inspirations and influences come
from National Geographic Magazine (circa
1920-1970), Joseph Campbell's Atlas of World
Mythology books, the Ring of Fire - An Indonesian
Odyssey documentaries, and A World of Earrings
by Anne van Cutsen.
The title, "Equipped for Eternity" was inspired by a
National Geographic article about mummies in Peru
found buried with their ornaments, suggesting that
the ornaments themselves were of a sacred or
spiritual nature. My intention with objects made by
myself for others, or myself, is that they ARE
sacred - weather it be because the materials are
sacred because of spiritual, personal or sentimental
reasons.
Materials we use include copper, brass, bronze,
silver, shell (including abalone, scallop, clam, paua),
bone, antler, wood, stone, glass, horn, beeswax,
cotton and various fibers. We specialize in custom
work and unique jewelry. We are always furthering
our research and introducing new designs. If you
have any ideas based on cultural styles not yet
mentioned, we'd love to hear from you!
